Edenside: A Brief History

Alan started Edenside Carpets in 1988 with premises at West Tower St since then the company has gone from strength to strength. We soon outgrew there and since 2003 have been in Lancaster St which provides us with over 2000 sq ft of dedicated display space. Unlike many other Carpet and Flooring businesses we train and employ our own full time Carpet Fitters who you have no doubt seen driving between jobs in our liveried Vans.

Samantha, Alans daughter, has subsequently joined Edenside strengthening the Domestic Sales side and adding to the friendly approachability of this family run business. The Commercial clients are supported by Mike, who is extremely knowledgeable about industrial grade flooring products and highly regarded for producing accurately costed estimates and project planning.

In 2008 Edenside expanded by buying Philip Walton Fine Furnishing Ltd of Addingham, Ilkley, West Yorkshire. This company specialist in Soft Furnishings such as Curtains and Upholstery alongside Oriental Rugs and all types of Window Blinds.

Edenside: The Showroom

Many people still remember our Showroom on Lancaster St Carlisle as The Pagoda Nightclub during the 1980s and 90s. Scene of big hair styles, shoulder pads and Miami Vice rolled up jackets; many brief encounters and many more permanent friendships and relationships. The building structure pre-dates this and has huge Architectural interest since it is one of four similar constructions designed for Olivetti who used them to support and maintain their early computers. We have only found one mention of a similar building, Olivetti Dundee, when it was being considered for the Financial Times Architectural Awards in 1973. Can anyone provide information on where the other two buildings were constructed and posibily their fate?
